Rome's roofs always captivated travellers, painters and writers all alike. Of course, old roofs are not peculiar of Rome, yet those of the Eternal City are uniquely varied, with a most imaginative layout, and decorate all central homes and palaces. The roofs consequently are an essential ingredient of the Eternal City's sights, extraordinarily varied in their own right.

Despite the quintessential character of the Roman roofs, it is actually hard to have a good look at them, and you rarely have a chance to stay in a house or hotel with great views of the roofs, as you have from this charming top floor apartment, endowed with completely private patio and terrace.

The apartment is located in Vicolo della Campanella ("Little Bell alley"), a quiet alley intersecting Via dei Coronari, a street connecting St. Peter and the Tiber to Piazza Navona, and famous for its antiquaries.

The unit is situated on the third floor off the street level (it would be the 4th floor in the USA) without elevator. One gets quickly used however to climb the stairs.

Very few neighbours live in this 16th century building, so is thus utmost quiet.

A cosy and somewhat elegant stairway, with wooden banister on both sides, introduces to the unit. The stairway works also as foyer, and introduces to the sitting-dining room of the apartment.

The sitting-dining room: overview. Flash-lamps were not used: notice the natural brightness

The character of the unit appears at first sight. The wooden beam ceilings, the "cotto" floor (terracotta tiles floor), the large fireplace evoke at first sight Rome's old character. More details will then appear: the large mirror, skilfully placed on the staircase, and facing also the large double glass door leading to the patio, the large window introducing to the patio, and a general feeling of charm.

The sitting-dining room is divided in two areas. The sitting area, including a *double sofa bed*, is near the entrance and the fireplace.
The sofa can be transformed into a double bed (for additional guests).
The dining area is situated just after the glass door leading to the patio, and on the way to the kitchen.

The dining table table can sit four persons. Near to it you find a chest of drawers, small tables and shelves with knick-knacks, also with the useful equipment needed to dine (dishes, glasses etc.).

As you can see, the sitting-dining area is endowed with many fine lamps (of various types and sizes), fine paintings, vases, and carpets.
