In this map you will find the map of the region of Rome, which is called "Lazio". The historical origin of the name derives from "latum" or "wide", as the region appeared large to the early inhabitants. The region consists of five provinces (Rome, Rieti, Frosinone, Latina, Viterbo) of which naturally Rome is the largest and overshadows the others. There are many motorways and excellent roads connecting all the towns, even the smallest ones. The neighbouring regions are Tuscany and Umbria (North), Abruzzi (East), Molise and Campania (the region of Naples) to the South. You find mountains, hills, plains, and a seaside, which is completed also by an island, Ponza.
